Record a brief description of what you accomplished on Elective Chatter under "Teen Questions". Post any questions you have as well.
Week of 3/30- Social and Emotional Health
Blog #1: What is the difference between a warning sign and a risk factor? Define each word and explain the difference in your first paragraph. Then, in the next paragraph (paragraph 2), describe the warning signs for depression and suicide. Finally, in the last paragraph (3) describe the risk factors for depression and suicide. Blog: Read the article about the Zeeland wrestler. Blog your thoughts and opinions based on the article.
Blog: Make sure you have completed a blog explaining your final project from the safety unit. I am missing quite a few of your blogs.
Elective Chatter: Respond to the comment "Sleep Habits" after submitting your sleep log from last week.
The rest of this week you will have to develop your Personal Health and Wellness final project. This project will need to be turned in before class begins on Friday in order to have a free afternoon. You may need to plan on spending time on this outside of class: before school, after school, during study hall, during community time, or at home. See the unit project handout for more details.
You may not do the same type of project you did for the last unit. For example, if you did a powerpoint for the saftey unit, you must choose a different type of presentation.

Week 3/9/09: Personal Health and Wellness
Blog #1: Analyze the importance of rest and sleep for personal health. How much sleep is needed each night to stay healthy? How does getting the right amount of sleep help your personal health?
Blog #2: What are some health strategies that can prevent the spread of illness? How are common infectious diseases transmitted?
Blog #3: Describe the dangers of exposure to UV light, lead, asbestos, pesticides, and unclean air and water. Brainstorm some strategies to avoid exposure.
Elective Chatter #1:
Log the amount of sleep you get for one full week. (See chart handout)
After one full week, assess personal rest and sleep practices and create a personal plan to incorporate rest and sleep in daily routines.
What do you notice about your sleep patterns?
What goals/improvements do you need to make in order to stay healthy?
Elective Chatter #2: What is "sun safety?" What are the social influences that encourage or discourage a person to practice sun safety?

Blog #1: What are some warning signs that will help you identify is someone you know may be being abused or harmed? This can be in relations to teens or adults.
Blog #2: On Thursday we will be having a guest speaker from Project Rehab. What is Project Rehab? Visit their website and record some of your findings on your Blogger. Come up with at least 2 questions you have for Brent about his job or questions in relation to other areas of safety.

Week of 2/9/09- Safety- Michigan Laws & Resources
Blog #1: Visit http://www.legislature.mi.gov/. Once you are on this site, search for Michigan's laws (MCL section) dealing with sexual harassment, sexual violence (Criminal sexual conduct), and bullying. Post your findings on your blog. Make sure to site you source, url, and put the article section # by each post you find.
Blog #1: According to Section 750, what is the difference between 1st degree, 2nd degree, 3rd degree, and 4th degree criminal sexual violence. What are the sentences/charges for each? (We will be going over this together in class)
